iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 series, iPhone SE second generation and every newer eligible iPhone. However, iPhone 11 through iPhone 14, the standard iPhone 15 models and every iPhone SE will miss Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI experience.

Apple’s iOS 27 compatibility list is much broader than its Apple Intelligence device list. This means an older iPhone may receive the operating-system update, security improvements and general performance changes without receiving the AI features Apple is promoting most heavily.

The difference is especially important for iPhone 15 owners. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus support iOS 27 but not Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support both.

Which iPhones support iOS 27?

Apple officially lists the following iPhones as compatible with iOS 27:

iPhone 17 models

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max
  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17
  • iPhone 17e
  • iPhone Air

iPhone 16 models

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16e

iPhone 15 models

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15

iPhone 14 models

  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14

iPhone 13 models

  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini

iPhone 12 models

  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini

iPhone 11 models

  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11

iPhone SE models

  • iPhone SE second generation
  • iPhone SE third generation

Apple’s official list therefore begins with the iPhone 11 generation and the second-generation iPhone SE.

The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR remain unsupported. Apple has not removed any additional models that currently support iOS 26, so users with an iOS 26-compatible iPhone should remain eligible for iOS 27.

Which supported iPhones get Apple Intelligence and Siri AI?

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI require an iPhone 15 Pro model, any iPhone 16 model or a newer compatible iPhone.

Apple’s current Apple Intelligence list includes the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, every iPhone 16 model, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro models. It does not include the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus or any older generation.

This table refers to the new Siri AI, not traditional Siri. Older supported iPhones will not lose ordinary Siri simply because they cannot run Apple Intelligence.

Why do the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus miss Siri AI?

The iPhone 15 generation creates the most confusion because Apple divides its four models into two different feature levels.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus receive iOS 27. However, they do not meet Apple’s hardware requirements for Apple Intelligence.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max use the A17 Pro chip and appear on Apple’s official Apple Intelligence compatibility list. As a result, these two models qualify for Siri AI and the other supported AI tools in iOS 27.

This difference means the word “Pro” matters more than usual for the iPhone 15 generation:

  • iPhone 15: iOS 27, but no Apple Intelligence
  • iPhone 15 Plus: iOS 27, but no Apple Intelligence
  • iPhone 15 Pro: iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI

Owners should check the exact model name under Settings → General → About rather than assuming every iPhone 15 has the same software capabilities.

What features will older supported iPhones miss?

An iPhone 11, 12, 13 or 14 can install iOS 27, but it will miss the features that depend on the next generation of Apple Intelligence.

The same limitation applies to the iPhone SE and standard iPhone 15 models.

New Siri AI

Siri AI is a rebuilt, conversational version of Siri that can answer open-ended questions, maintain natural back-and-forth conversations and use information from personal content.

Apple says it can find relevant details in messages, emails, photos and notes. It can also understand information displayed on the screen and perform supported actions across apps such as Messages, Music and Reminders.

Siri AI also introduces a dedicated Siri app where users can revisit conversations across supported Apple devices.

None of these new Siri AI capabilities will be available on iPhones that do not support Apple Intelligence.

Advanced photo editing

Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones gain AI editing tools such as Spatial Reframing, Extend and an improved Clean Up tool.

Spatial Reframing can change the viewpoint or framing of an existing photograph. Extend can generate content beyond the original edges of an image, while the upgraded Clean Up feature can remove larger unwanted objects.

These tools require Apple Intelligence and will not become available merely because an older iPhone installs iOS 27.

AI writing features

Supported models can use Siri AI to draft, edit and improve text in places where users type.

Apple has also announced personalised writing assistance in Mail and Messages, automatic proofreading, suggestions and tools that can adapt written responses to the way a person normally communicates with a particular recipient.

Older iPhones will not receive this complete AI writing layer.

Intelligent app features

Apple Intelligence also supports features such as smarter Safari organisation, automatically generated Shortcuts, Call Context, improved password assistance, Image Playground and enhanced Visual Intelligence.

Feature availability can still differ by language, country, application and individual device capability. Some tools may also arrive later than the main iOS 27 update.

What will older iPhones still receive with iOS 27?

Missing Apple Intelligence does not mean an iPhone receives no meaningful improvements.

Apple has announced several operating-system changes that are separate from the new AI layer.

Liquid Glass design improvements

iOS 27 refines Apple’s Liquid Glass interface with stronger readability, more consistent refraction and improved contrast. App icons also gain sharper details.

A new appearance control allows users to adjust the interface from clearer glass to a more heavily tinted presentation.

General performance improvements

Apple says iOS 27 improves performance across different parts of the operating system, but the advertised percentages come from controlled tests using different iPhone models.

In Apple’s prerelease testing, application launches were up to 30 percent faster on an iPhone 11 Pro Max. New photographs loaded up to 70 percent faster on an iPhone 15, while AirDrop transfers were up to 80 percent faster on an iPhone 16 Plus.

These results do not mean every compatible iPhone will become faster by the same percentage. Performance can vary according to the model, battery condition, storage, settings, installed applications, software version, content and usage pattern.

Smoother network switching

Apple says compatible iPhones will switch more smoothly between available Wi-Fi and mobile connections.

This could reduce interruptions when a user leaves a Wi-Fi area during navigation, a FaceTime call or another active task.

Better search in Mail

The Mail app receives a new ranking system designed to place more relevant search results near the top.

This improvement belongs to the broader operating-system update and should not be confused with AI-only Mail features.

Child-safety and parental controls

iOS 27 adds expanded child-safety controls, including more choices during initial setup, website approval requests and clearer Screen Time management.

Parents can choose which system applications a child can initially use and create different access schedules for applications and content categories.

Apple is also expanding Communication Safety to intervene before children view certain violent or graphic material in supported communication experiences.

Do all Siri AI-compatible iPhones get every AI feature?

No. Even among Apple Intelligence-compatible models, a smaller group receives Apple’s most advanced on-device model.

Apple says its most powerful local model is available on:

  • iPhone Air
  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max

This model enables additional capabilities such as more expressive Siri voices and more advanced systemwide dictation.

Other Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones, including the iPhone 15 Pro models, iPhone 16 family, iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e, still qualify for Siri AI. However, they do not receive every feature tied to Apple’s highest-level on-device model.

This creates three practical levels of iOS 27 support:

  1. iOS 27 without Apple Intelligence
  2. iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI
  3. iOS 27 with Siri AI and Apple’s most advanced local model

Users should therefore check individual feature requirements instead of treating Apple Intelligence support as one universal package.

Will Siri AI work in India?

Siri AI is expected to work in India on eligible iPhones set to supported English language options, but Apple has not announced a separate India release date.

Apple says Siri AI will arrive as a beta later in 2026 for supported devices set to English. The company plans to expand language support after the initial release.

India is not listed among the regions where Apple has announced an initial regulatory restriction. However, individual features can still vary according to language, region, local rules and software version.

Users in India may need to ensure that both the iPhone language and Siri language use a supported English option. Apple Intelligence normally requires the device and Siri languages to match.

A compatible phone may still show some features as unavailable if Apple has not released them in the selected language or region.

When will iOS 27 release?

Apple says iOS 27 is coming later in 2026. It has not confirmed a precise stable-release date for India.

Siri AI also has a separate availability schedule. Apple describes it as a beta feature coming in English later in the year, so it may not arrive as a fully finished feature at the same time as every other part of iOS 27.

When the stable update becomes available, users can check for it through:

Settings → General → Software Update

Before installing a major update, users should create a current backup and leave enough free storage for the installation.

The main compatibility rule is straightforward. The iPhone 11 and newer models can receive iOS 27, but only the iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16 or newer eligible devices receive Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. The iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro models gain one additional level of advanced on-device Siri capabilities.
